Kristina’s Story

Authentic, inclusive, and transparent marketing & communications

My journey in the MarComms industry started at a young age with a family newsletter - reporting on all the latest family stories with markers and construction paper. But I was never satisfied with the surface facts. A sibling’s scraped knee turned into a story about their imaginary adventure that resulted in the injury. The “why” was always front and center. Fast-forward to the present, inclusive, compassionate storytelling remains at the heart of my work.

In my current role, as Managing Director of the Marketing & Communications team at Generation USA, I lead a team of 11 full-time employees tasked with generating awareness of our national nonprofit’s mission and programs, participant recruitment strategies, and strategic communications with key stakeholders and participants all with the shared goal of breaking the barriers systemic racism has created in workforce development and educational systems.

Why do I love what I do? It’s simple. I get to shape strategies to tell stories that matter in various ways. Whether through digital, traditional, or experiential tactics, I enjoy reaching audiences where they are and creating relevant messages that will spark meaningful action.

What’s my why? My parents are proof that you are more than just your circumstance. But it shouldn’t require more effort because of your race, gender, or socioeconomic background to get a fair chance at success. And because representation matters, they are the reason I focus on ethical, inclusive, and transparent marketing and communications practices in the educational nonprofit space.

I am based out of Virginia, USA where I spend my free time with my husband and our daughters. During the weekends, you’ll often find me running to various sporting events, listening to my favorite true-crime podcasts, or curled up on the couch eating popcorn during our weekly family movie nights.
